Man arrested for killing Pennsylvania-born mother found near hiking trail

(NewsNation) – Authorities have arrested a man in connection with the killing of Rachel Morin, a Pennsylvania mother whose body was found near a popular hiking trail in August 2023.

Victor Martinez Hernandez was arrested late Friday night in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and booked into jail early Saturday morning, according to family and court records. Hernandez is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree rape, according to Morin’s family.

Morin, 37, was reported missing in August by her boyfriend, who said she never returned after a run. Her body was found on a trail the next day.

The case attracted national attention after her family and officials indicated that the suspect had likely entered the United States illegally.

In February, police in Maryland released new sketches of the man who allegedly killed Morin. Investigators were also able to trace the suspect to another crime in Los Angeles, California. DNA from the Morin crime scene was also linked to a burglary and an assault.
