Arrest in connection with the murder of Rachel Morin, whose mother was found dead near a hiking trail in 2023

HARFORD COUNTY, Md. (WBFF) — A man has been arrested in connection with the killing of Rachel Morin, a Maryland mother of five who was found dead near a hiking trail in August 2023.

In a press conference Saturday announcing the update, Harford County Sheriff Jeffery Gahler said Victor Martinez-Hernandez was arrested late Friday night in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and booked into custody Saturday morning.

He is accused of premeditated murder and first-degree rape.

The case began on August 5, 2023, when 37-year-old Morin went jogging on the Ma & Pa Trail and never returned. Volunteers searched the woods and found her in a septic tank near the trail on August 6.

The investigation intensified when the sheriff’s office announced a few weeks later that DNA found on Morin’s body matched that of a suspect in a Los Angeles home invasion.
