15-year-old girl found dead in South Lowell apartment

LOWELL – A homicide investigation is underway after a 15-year-old girl was found dead in her South Lowell apartment Friday from apparent gunshot wounds.

The deceased teenager was found by a family member shortly after 6 p.m. in the apartment in the 1100 block of Lawrence Street, according to a joint news release from the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Lowell police.

In a 911 call, the family member reported seeing “traumatic injuries to the body,” authorities said. When police arrived at the scene, they found the victim with apparent gunshot wounds. Several bullet casings were also found at the scene.

Later Friday evening, investigators received a search warrant for the apartment. Authorities announced at around 1:10 p.m. on Saturday that the “investigation is currently very intensive.”

There are no reports of arrests.

The State Police Criminal Investigation Unit assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office is assisting in the investigation.
