Stencil Archie of Akron was killed in an accident on US 30 in Perry Township

PERRY TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WJW) — According to Stark County State Police, an adult passenger was killed and a child passenger was seriously injured in a suspected drunk driving accident Friday evening.

The single-vehicle accident occurred around 9 p.m. on U.S. Route 30, near mile marker 12 in Perry Township, according to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Investigators determined that a crossover SUV driven by a 27-year-old Canton woman was traveling westbound when it left the right side of the road, initiated excessive steering and eventually left the left side of the road.

The car rolled over several times, crossed the oncoming eastbound lanes and the guardrail, and then came to a stop on the south side of the highway, the press release said.

Stencil Archie, 35, of Akron, was in the passenger seat at the time and was not wearing a seatbelt, police said. He died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Two children who were also in the car at the time were taken to a local hospital. One of them was seriously injured and later flown to Akron Children’s Hospital. The other child suffered minor injuries and was later taken to Akron Children’s as a precaution, the release said.

The driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

According to police, alcohol was a factor in the accident. The investigation is ongoing.

It is unclear if the driver has been charged. No charges against the driver are listed in online court records.
