20 days later, a case was filed in Ludhiana for bike theft

At least 20 days after three culprits allegedly stole a worker’s bicycle, mobile phone and 1,000 after attacking him with an iron rod near Moti Nagar, police on Saturday registered a First Instance Report (FIR) against the unidentified accused.

The defendant robbed the victim of his bicycle, his mobile phone and 1,000 dollars in cash and left him injured on the street in Ludhiana. (HT file)

The victim, Amandeep Singh, was admitted to a hospital. The police registered the case after the statement of Sanjiv Kumar of Dhillon Nagar, the victim’s brother.

The complainant stated that his brother was returning home on his bicycle after work when three unidentified accused stopped him near Aarti Steels in Moti Nagar and asked for a lift.

The complainant added that his brother reluctantly offered them a lift. He alleged that the accused then attacked Amandeep with an iron rod. The accused robbed him of his bicycle, mobile phone and $1,000 in cash and left him injured on the street. Passersby saw him injured and informed the police. He was then taken to a hospital.

He claimed that he had run from pillar to post to file an FIR in the case, but the police had delayed the matter for twenty days.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ajmer Singh, who is investigating the case, said the police were waiting for the victim to record his statement. However, after the statement of the victim’s brother, the police filed a complaint under sections 379B and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against unidentified assailants. The police are trying to trace the assailants, he said.
