1 dead, 2 injured in crash in Brevard County – Orlando Sentinel

A 29-year-old Melbourne woman was killed at mile marker 161 on Interstate 95 in Brevard County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

A 33-year-old Lake Park man was stopped in a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu in the inside lane of southbound I-95 at mile marker 161, FHP said. The Melbourne woman was driving a 2021 Toyota Corolla in the inside lane southbound. The Chevy Malibu was in front of the Toyota Corolla, blocking the inside lane with its hazard lights on.

According to FHP, the woman attempted to move into the middle lane to avoid the Malibu, but the front of the Corolla struck the right rear of the sedan.

The impact caused the Malibu to leave the roadway and hit the inner side guardrail, FHP said. The initial impact caused the Corolla to flip onto its roof.

The woman from Melbourne was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, FHP said. The man and a 31-year-old passenger in the Corolla were taken to Sebastian Medical Center with minor injuries.

This crash remains under investigation.
