Newport County YMCA closed after steam room incident

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — The Newport County YMCA is closed Saturday morning following an incident in the steam room in the women’s locker room.

According to a social media post, people in the area were not injured, but the building showed water damage in some areas.

The incident was initially reported as an explosion, but that was not the case.

Indoor activities at the YMCA are closed until further notice. An update on the incident is expected later today.

The YMCA also thanked the emergency services who were called to the scene of the accident.
