Sheriff: Man arrested after shooting in Northampton County

GARYSBURG, NC (WNCN) — A man was arrested Thursday after a shooting damaged a vehicle and a residence, according to the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office.

On June 8 at 7:50 p.m., officials said a shooting occurred at a local convenience store outside of Garysburg. The sheriff’s office said a vehicle and a residence were struck by bullets.

On Thursday, Major J. Barmer, Sgt. M. Deloatch, Sgt. A. Trenz, Sgt. W. Killian and Deputy L. Batchelor located and arrested 25-year-old Montrell Johnson of Pleasant Hill on outstanding warrants in connection with the shooting.

He was charged with discharging a firearm into an inhabited property while maintaining a concealed pistol, two counts of criminal damage to real property and one count of criminal damage to personal property.

The sheriff’s office said Johnson also has a Halifax County warrant for his arrest for petty theft.

He was given a $26,500 secured bail and will appear in court on June 26.
