LAPD: Woman shot after threatening family with knife

Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department responded to an attack with a deadly weapon early Saturday morning and shot the suspect, authorities said.

According to initial reports from the LAPD’s press secretary, police were first dispatched to the 9400 block of Van Nuys Boulevard in Panorama City shortly after 12:30 a.m.

“The comments on the call indicated that the suspect was armed with a knife and was threatening family members,” the PIO said on X.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the suspect, described only as a woman in her 20s, armed with the knife. She refused to comply with repeated orders to drop the weapon and surrender, but did not comply, police said.

“This encounter resulted in an officer-involved shooting and the use of a taser,” the LAPD said.

After the gunshot wound, the woman was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The investigations are still ongoing.
