Tulsa Police Department encourages more women to pursue careers in law enforcement

Tulsa is encouraging more women to consider a career in law enforcement as several police departments struggle with staffing shortages.

TPD is hosting a “Women in Policing Day” to educate women and empower them to reach their full potential. Saturday is all about showing women what a career in policing could be like and giving women the opportunity to get their questions answered.

Organizers say the day-long event will include everything from defense tactics to physical agility tests. They ask that all women participating wear comfortable gym clothes and tennis shoes. Women can choose what they want to participate in. The female officers will also detail the recruitment process to give everyone an idea of how to get started.

Officer Ana Parga has been with the Tulsa Police Department for 3 years and says she got into the cause through this event. She says it is designed by women, for women.

“I know a lot of people still think this is a male-dominated field. But of course, I’m here and I’ve seen all my female colleagues out there. We all stick together and do a great job,” Parga said.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tulsa Police Training Academy on East 66th Street North.
