Police find stabbed dog during animal welfare inspection

According to police, officers checking the welfare of a suspected suicidal person in Windsor Locks on Wednesday found a dog with numerous stab wounds to its neck and body.

The dog was found after police received a call about an emotionally disturbed person on N. Main Street around 1 p.m.

When officers arrived at a residence, they found a woman with no clothes on and cuts to her face. Police said the same person had previously run onto N. Main Street naked and in an agitated state. Police also noticed blood on the walls inside the residence and the woman was asked to sit down so police could treat her injuries. However, the person became belligerent and attacked the officer and had to be restrained, police said.

Additional officers were called to detain the woman, who also reportedly argued with paramedics assisting her and screamed that she had stabbed herself in the neck and was HIV positive, police said. But despite her claims, police could not find any evidence of stab wounds on her neck. The person was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

Two dogs were found during the search of the house. One had multiple stab wounds to its neck and body. The Windsor Locks animal control officer took the dog to be treated for its injuries. According to police, its condition remains stable.

Police said the investigation was ongoing and charges would be filed.
