At around 9:30 p.m., the German police were called to a single-family home on Genossenschaftsweg in Wolmirstedt near Magdeburg in Saxony-Anhalt.

Police shot the attacker at the scene after he ran toward officers to attack them.

“Firearms were used,” a police spokesman told the Bild newspaper on Saturday morning.

“The perpetrator died in hospital.”

Bild also published a photo of a corpse covered with a blanket being taken away from the crime scene on a stretcher.

Two of the three people attacked were seriously injured.

According to the Magdeburger Volksstimme, before his rampage at the European Championship party, he allegedly threatened another group of people in a nearby garden with a knife.

In a separate attack, the knife attacker also killed a man in a residential building, reports Bild.

Also on Friday evening, a EURO 2024 fan zone in Berlin was cordoned off after a suspicious object was found in the spectator area.

Police announced the shocking discovery and an arrest as bomb-sniffing dogs and bomb disposal experts rushed to the venue just hours before the opening match between Germany and Scotland.

Police announced on social media that they found the item during a routine check before fans flocked to the venue over the weekend.

Scotland fans crowd the subway to get to the Munich football stadium and fan zones ahead of kick-off of the 2024 European Championship against Germany.

A man was arrested and taken away after leaving a backpack at the entrance, German media reported.

The local police said: “A suspicious object was found in the entrance area of the Scheidemannstrasse fan zone.

“This area is currently not accessible to fans. Our colleagues are checking the property.”

The area was subsequently closed to the public while the investigation continued.

The German capital will be a hive of activity as the first match on Saturday features an exciting duel between Spain and Croatia.

Six games are planned in Berlin in June and July, including the final.

Germany has already launched a huge security operation across the country after fears of hooliganism and terrorism plagued the tournament.

To ensure the security of high-profile European Championship matches, a robust “steel ring” consisting of thousands of armed police officers was erected around the stadiums to protect them from possible attacks.

The widespread death cult ISIS has repeatedly made threats against events such as the European Championship, the Champions League and the Olympic Games in Paris in recent months.

It was also revealed that fans who felt “unsafe” or “threatened” during the tournament were instructed to tell police or staff “Panama” for help.

Organisers of the competition in Gelsenkirchen – where England will face Serbia on Sunday – sent the message to fans on Friday.

When it comes to Panama, employees should “immediately offer the possibility of a place of retreat.”
