Steve Albini, who produced Nirvana, has died aged 61

CLEVELAND (WJW) – A music legend has died at the age of 61, according to multiple reports.


The news that Steve Albini — a recording engineer for bands such as Nirvana, Pixies and PJ Harvey, as well as frontman for the bands Big Black and Shellac — has passed away was confirmed to Variety by a representative from his Chicago recording studio.

The music website Pitchfork confirmed that he died of a heart attack.

The outspoken rocker will forever be known for his work on two of the greatest rock records of all time: Nirvana’s “In Utero” and the Pixies’ “Surfer Rosa.”

It was not clear when Albini died or whether he had previously been ill. Funeral information has not yet been released.
