ICE arrests illegal immigrant for alleged rape of minor in Jamaica: “Disturbing”

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials on Friday announced the arrest of an illegal immigrant wanted for the alleged rape of a minor in Jamaica.

The person was admitted to the United States by border guards in June 2020. According to ICE, he had non-immigrant visitor status at the time and was allowed to stay in the United States for six months.

In July 2020, Jamaican authorities issued an arrest warrant for the man for allegedly raping a minor in the country. According to ICE, his visa was revoked by the State Department shortly thereafter.

Deportation officials arrested the fugitive on May 29 in Stamford, Connecticut. He was issued a summons to appear before an immigration judge and is now in ICE custody awaiting the outcome of the deportation proceedings against him.

Todd Lyons, Boston field director of Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), said the individual poses a danger to the community.

“This Jamaican non-citizen fled to the United States to escape some very disturbing charges,” Lyons said. “He posed a significant threat to the people of Connecticut and will now return to Jamaica to face justice. ERO Boston will continue its work that prioritizes public safety while arresting and removing egregious non-citizen offenders from our New England communities.”

The announcement comes amid a wave of migrant arrests by ICE, the immigration agency that last week announced the arrest of a Colombian national accused of attacking a mentally disabled victim.

The Biden administration issued an executive order this month that bars migrants from seeking asylum if authorities determine the border is overwhelmed. Senator Marco Rubio (R-Florida) condemned the measure and called for a more forceful response from the president.

“Biden’s new border plan is a joke,” Senator Rubio wrote on X. “Even if Biden actually enforced it in full (which he won’t), he would still allow nearly a million people a year to enter illegally, IN ADDITION to the 10 million he has already let in over the past three years.”
