Victim identified in suspected fatal hit-and-run incident | Local

EUGENE, Ore. – Police today identified the victim who was allegedly struck by a University of Oregon football player’s car last month as 46-year-old Frank William Seaman, according to the Eugene Police Department.

EPD officials said May 8 that Seaman’s family had been notified of his death. Seaman was found dead at West 4th Avenue and Polk Street shortly after 9 p.m. on April 15. Police records indicated that the incident initially appeared to be a stabbing around 9:15 p.m. and that Seaman was found on the street with a large gash on his neck and a hammer nearby. Neighbors in the area where the incident occurred said they heard a vehicle driving excessively loudly and quickly through the neighborhood just before 9 p.m. A neighbor said his wife then heard a muffled noise, followed by several sirens from emergency vehicles.

Daylen Amir Austin, a 19-year-old defensive back for the Ducks, was arrested at an apartment around 11:45 that evening and is charged with failure to perform the duties of a driver to an injured person. Austin was booked into the Lane County Jail on April 17 and released.

According to court records, Austin is due back in court on May 22 and is currently on a conditional release.
