Oklahoma County Sheriff investigates ‘unusual’ kidnapping in Edmond

A Kasey Alert was issued for a 43-year-old woman in Edmond on Friday afternoon. The alert was later lifted after the woman was found.

The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the woman was found and safe.

The scene took place in front of a cafe in Edmond.

Oklahoma County sheriff’s officials said they believe the shooting was a possible robbery, but they revealed limited facts in a case that raises many questions.

“We are trying to find out all the details,” said Deputy Aaron Brilbeck, spokesman for the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office. “The investigation is still in its early stages.”

A commercial district in northwest Edmond isn’t usually bustling with investigators, but that’s exactly where Oklahoma County Sheriff’s officials were Friday afternoon searching for clues.

“We are currently still looking for the suspects in this case,” said Brilbeck.

Brilbeck said three possibly armed men took a 43-year-old woman from the Edmond Coffee Jerks location at North MacArthur Boulevard and Northwest 178th Street.

“We do not believe that this was a random kidnapping,” said Brilbeck.

Due to a lack of information and the potentially sensitive nature of the case, News 9 is not naming or showing a photo of the victim in this story. However, Brilbeck said a deputy found the victim alone in southwest OKC.

“She was taken by EMSA and examined,” said Brilbeck. “She is fine.”

Brilbeck said he could provide few details about this unique case.

“I’m still trying to figure out exactly what happened,” said Brilbeck. “It’s extremely unusual for something like this to just happen.”

An employee at the cafe told News 9 he saw the incident but was confused as to what happened. Brilbeck said they spoke to several witnesses at that cafe to get more information.

Investigators announced that they will release more details on the case early next week.
