Man and ex-wife arrested after child sexual abuse investigation in South Alabama

A man and his ex-wife were arrested in connection with an investigation into the sexual abuse of a nine-year-old child in southern Alabama.

The Andalusian police began investigating the possible sexual abuse of the nine-year-old earlier this month.

The investigation led to the arrest of Carmen Ray Ammons, 64, and his ex-wife Shelby Marie Rushing, Andalusia Police Sergeant Al McGraw told WSFA.

Ammons was charged with sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12, sodomy, and two counts of possession of child pornography.

Rushing was charged with sodomy and production of obscene material containing graphic depictions of a person under the age of 17 engaged in obscene acts.

Ammons is being held in the Covington County Jail on $300,000 bail, while Rushing is being held on $400,000 bail.

Rushing allegedly confessed to her role in the crimes, McGraw said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call McGraw at 334-222-1155 or Central Alabama CrimeStoppers at 334-215-7867.
