Victim of man accused of attacking and exposing himself to women in the Raleigh area wants justice

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – An accused serial offender is behind bars, accused of breaking into women’s homes in the Raleigh area and exposing himself to them.

Shaun Coleman’s name is written across the chest of this Memphis woman – a blunt statement that names her attacker.

“I was totally abused, with everything that comes with it,” she said. “It’s like a story in my shirt.”

She asked Action News 5 to keep her identity confidential. She is one of at least three women who Memphis police say were attacked by Coleman in the Raleigh area this year.

“I woke up in my bed and there was a guy crawling towards me on his knees,” she said.”

She says Coleman came through her patio door while she and her daughter were sleeping at their former home in Melcrest Cove.

“I started screaming: Shoot him! Shoot him! Kill him now,” she said. “Finally, he ran out.”

After reporting the incident, she felt that the police did not believe her story until other women became victims.

That same day, a woman who also lived in Melcrest Cove reported a similar attack, according to a Memphis Police affidavit.

The affidavit states that Coleman stood over the victim while he was sleeping after “breaking a window or sliding glass door.”

The police also point out that there have been “several similar incidents” in the same area.

“When night falls, it’s just so scary,” she said. “I haven’t slept for a month and a half, I haven’t slept at night at all.”

After another attack nearby, police finally caught Coleman on surveillance video and arrested him on May 9.

They say he admitted to “masturbating over the sleeping women.”

Coleman has a long criminal history over the past decade, including multiple prison stints, theft, a prison break, sexual abuse, assault and more.

He is now accused of two counts of aggravated burglary, sexual abuse and causing a public nuisance.

He is currently in the Shelby County Jail on $65,000 bail.

“I just want them to know that this is not fair at all,” she said. “It’s affecting my life and the only thing I can get is justice.”

Coleman was due in court on Friday for a bail hearing, but it was adjourned.

He will be back in court on July 11.
