Angel City FC begins a busy week starting Saturday in Houston

The Angel City Football Club will reach the halfway point of the 26-game schedule following Wednesday’s match against Racing Louisville FC.

The first half has been difficult so far.

ACFC sits in 12th place with just 11 points and is currently on a four-game winless streak heading into Saturday’s road game against the Houston Dash.

“We’ve talked about it a lot the last few weeks, right now it’s us versus us,” Angel City coach Becki Tweed said. “I think we are our own worst enemy right now.”

Angel City (3-6-2) faces a busy week, starting at Houston, followed by a home game Wednesday against Racing Louisville FC and then another away game June 22 at Bay FC .

If Angel City can’t get out of its way, the season could be lost.

“I think we have everything we need to get results and we need to focus on us,” Tweed said. “We know the way Houston wants to play, we know their shape, their style, but we’re focusing on who we want to be and being the best version of ourselves and that’s really our focus this week.

This is the second meeting between the teams. The Dash snatched all three points in a 1-0 victory on May 12 on former Angel City defender Paige Nielsen’s goal in the 98th minute.

The Dash (3-6-3, 12 points) occupies 11th place.

“I think we all left that (first) Houston game feeling like we fought,” Tweed said. “We didn’t stay focused when it mattered most, we didn’t test (Houston goalkeeper) Jane Campbell enough and I think we have an opportunity to fix that.

“I think as a player and as a group you always want to come back because you have unfinished business there and we weren’t good enough the first time we played them and we the opportunity to fix that.”

Angel City has allowed multiple goals in four games, all losses. All other matches seemingly ended late, resulting in another one-goal defeat.
