Iowa man hospitalized after parachute malfunction during skydiving

KCCI EIGHT NEWS BEGINS WITH BREAKING NEWS. BREAKING NEWS FROM MARION COUNTY. A MAN IS IN THE HOSPITAL TONIGHT AFTER A SKYDIVING ACCIDENT. IT HAPPENED THIS AFTERNOON NEAR THE KNOXVILLE AIRPORT. THE MARION COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS A 62-YEAR-OLD MAN FROM THE DES MOINES AREA WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED. THEY SAID A GROUP OF SKYDIVERS JUMPED FROM NEARLY 15,000 FT TO ABOUT 4,000 FT. THEY NOTICED THE MAN HAD A PROBLEM WITH HIS PARACHUTE. HE GOT OUT OF CONTROL AND HIT THE GROUND. UNTIL NOW WE DO NOT KNOW THE MAN’S NAME

Iowa man flown to hospital with injuries after skydiving accident

An Iowa man was hospitalized Friday afternoon after a skydiving accident. According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, a group of skydivers jumped from 15,000 feet just before 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. At about 4,000 feet, members of the group noticed a man having a problem with his parachute. The man spun out of control and hit the ground near the Knoxville airport. Officials have not yet identified the man, but said he is a 62-year-old man from the Des Moines area. An Iowa man was hospitalized Friday afternoon following a skydiving accident.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, a group of skydivers jumped from an altitude of 15,000 feet just before 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. At about 4,000 feet, members of the group noticed a man who had a problem with his parachute. The man went out of control and landed on the ground near the Knoxville airport.

Officials have not yet identified the man, but said he is a 62-year-old man from the Des Moines area. He was flown by helicopter to a Des Moines hospital with serious injuries.
