4-year-old boy dead after being found in SUV in Northeast DC – NBC4 Washington

A young boy is dead after being found unconscious in a vehicle in northeast DC on Friday night, DC police said.

Shortly after 5 p.m., someone called 911 to report that a 4-year-old was unconscious in a Ford SUV at the corner of Galloway Street and South Dakota Avenue in the Fort Totten neighborhood, police said. The child was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

“It’s so sad,” said neighbor Crystal Wilkerson. “If that’s the case, I’m just surprised no one saw the child earlier, because there’s traffic going up and down here all day, going to the subway and going home.”

A stroller was spotted nearby, but there is no information on the whereabouts of the child’s parents, how long he was in the vehicle or what led to his death. A guardian of the child was at the scene when police arrived, police said.

Police are currently investigating whether the death was caused by the heat, but they will not be able to confirm this until the coroner determines the official cause of death, a police spokesman said.
