Young APD police officer arrested after domestic incident

Albuquerque – Following an alleged case of domestic violence, the APD had to arrest one of its members again on Thursday.

On June 14, 2024, an APD supervisor was dispatched to the Northwest Command Center to make contact with a caller who said her friend may have been following her after an incident earlier in the day and she was afraid. The victim was reported to be visibly distraught, in tears and breathing heavily. The victim told the supervisor that her friend, identified as APD Officer Breeyn Arrey, 22, of Albuquerque, had been abusive and she was afraid of her. The victim said they had been a couple for one year and four months.

The victim informed the supervisor of past incidents, specifically addressing Arrey’s habit of spitting on the victim in anger. The victim even provided the police supervisor with a photo from that day in which it appeared as if spit was dripping from her temple and eyebrow area.

The incident that led to the arrest began when B. Lopez came to the victim’s home and wanted to have breakfast with him, but the victim was not in the mood. Refusing to go to breakfast with the victim led to a verbal argument during which the victim was verbally abused. At some point, the victim finally got in the car and they drove off. The victim said she tried to get out of the car, but B. Lopez instead locked the doors and began driving aggressively. The victim described the driving as “crazy” and said they narrowly avoided a collision with other traffic on the road. Other vehicles noticed the psychotic driving and began honking at their vehicle. The victim said Arrey became even angrier when she became silent and stopped protesting. At one point while driving, Arrey grabbed the victim by the hair and spat in her face while calling her “Female dog”. The victim attempted to use her phone, but Arrey attempted to take it away from her. At one point, the vehicle slowed down and the victim attempted to flee near the Starbuck at the corner of Coors and Ladera NW, but Arrey forcibly dragged her back into the car and did not let her escape the force.

The victim said the entire ordeal lasted 45 minutes, with a forced stop at Starbucks for coffee. Arrey eventually drove the victim home, but threw the coffee at her. Arrey apparently had to start her shift at the police department around noon that day and apparently didn’t want to be late for work, so she left the scene. The victim told the APD supervisor she didn’t want Arrey to get in trouble, and admitted: “She’s going to kill me”. APD provided the victim with a restraining order package and attempted to further contact her, but she left the extension and refused to speak further.

Arrey is now charged with false imprisonment and two counts of assault on a family member. Since Arrey is a parolee, her employment with the City of Albuquerque could be in jeopardy, unless she is friends or related to Deputy Chief Vega or Chief Medina, in which case she will most likely be unharmed.
