Traffic on I-16 eastbound is closed at exit 132 due to an accident that left 7 people transported to a trauma center in Savannah.

Bulloch County Sheriff’s Deputies, GSP and GA DOT closed Interstate 16 eastbound at Exit 132 on Friday evening, June 14, 2024 at approximately 7:30 p.m. due to a multi-vehicle crash involving a school bus. The interstate will be closed for several hours while GSP troopers investigate the scene. Please find an alternate route Friday evening if you must take Interstate 16 from Statesboro to Savannah.

Bulloch County 911 dispatched police and EMS to a multi-vehicle crash that occurred at mile marker 136 eastbound on I-16 at approximately 6:45 p.m. The crash involved a school bus. The school bus was not a Bulloch County school bus.

The first units to arrive on the scene requested several ambulances and rescue helicopters. The Bulloch County Fire Department assisted in removing the victims from the vehicles.

Byran County EMS transported two patients in two different ambulances to Memorial Medical in Savannah, Lifestar transported one patient, and Bulloch EMS transported four patients in three ambulances to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah.

Officers from Georgia State Patrol Post 45 are in charge of the investigation and have requested the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) to the scene of the accident.
