First Alert Action Day: Extreme heat until Saturday

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY-TV) – A day of action by the weather agency for the first warning is in effect NOW through Saturday night for Imperial County as temperatures are at least 12 degrees above normal.

Even though Yuma County is not on a First Alert Action Day, we will still have extremely hot temperatures with highs over 110 degrees.

A Excessive heat WARNING now applies to parts of Imperial County until 8 p.m. Saturday with highs of up to 46 degrees.

Remember to always drink enough and take heat protection measures to prevent heat-related illnesses.

An Air Quality Advisory is issued, effective from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, for portions of Imperial County due to high ozone (smog) levels caused by high temperatures.

It will remain sunny, hot and mostly dry throughout the weekend.

Windy weather is also expected on Saturday and Sunday, with gusts of 20-30 mph possible; Sunday will see the strongest winds.

Temperatures will begin to cool down on Father’s Day, so temperatures will be near average early next week.
