Mother of three boys missing since 2010 asks court to declare them dead

MORENCI, Michigan (WTVG) – The mother of the missing Morenci boys is asking a court to declare the brothers dead.

No one has seen Andrew, Alexander and Tanner Skelton since Thanksgiving 2010. Their father, John Skelton, is behind bars for false imprisonment.

This declaration of death is being requested by the boys’ mother, Tanya Zuvers. This petition for declaration of death was filed in Lenawee County Probate Court in December 2023. Both sides have already been to court. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for next Thursday and a declaration of death hearing is scheduled for late July.

Under Michigan law, any person who has been missing for five years is presumed dead.

John Skelton is due to be released from prison next year.

Read the dying declaration of one of the brothers, Andrew, in the document below. The declarations of the other boys are almost identical.
