Buffalo airport runway to be closed for two months

Preventative maintenance work has begun at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

Although construction work on Taxiway A has not affected travel, this will not be the case on Runway 5-23, when the work will result in its closure on August 1 for two months.

This will require the use of alternate flight paths and a change in sound patterns when flights take off and land on Runway 1432.

When Runway 5-23 reopens on October 1, it will only be closed overnight.

“Everyone involved in the project worked very hard to minimize any impact on travelers and residents of the surrounding community,” the NFTA said in a statement.
