Driver fatally hits child in O’Fallon, police investigate

O’FALLON, Missouri – An investigation is ongoing after a driver fatally struck a child in O’Fallon on Friday morning.

O’Fallon police report that a nine-year-old boy was killed in the collision. His identity has not been released at this time of the investigation.


The collision occurred around 11:45 a.m. near the intersection of Harmony Lane and Vine Street.

Upon arrival, emergency responders attempted to save the victim’s life. He was taken to hospital for further treatment, where he was later pronounced dead.

O’Fallon police said the driver was still at the scene after the crash and is cooperating with authorities. Police said the driver was a 19-year-old from St. Louis County.

O’Fallon Police are asking anyone who may have surveillance video of the accident or who may have witnessed it to contact their department with relevant information.

O’Fallon Police added the following statement in a press release:

“The O’Fallon Police Department would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family of the juvenile victim. We are committed to taking action to prevent future incidents through education and enforcement. Traffic and pedestrian safety is the O’Fallon Police Department’s top priority and we urge all residents to exercise caution when operating a vehicle and to be alert for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists and other motorists.”

Neighbors told FOX 2 that the child was riding her bike at the time of the accident, visiting relatives from out of state. Investigators have not yet confirmed this information.
