Sunset Beach police rescue fawn that fell into canal

SUNSET BEACH, NC (WECT) – Sunset Beach officials rescued a fawn that fell into a canal on Friday, June 14.

“Officer Bell-Osinkosky arrived and quickly helped the fawn out of the canal and placed it on the grass in the yard above. The fawn jumped up and ran out of sight and we thought that was the end of the story. Four days later, on June 14, 2024, we received the same call at the same address. Apparently our little fawn had done it again. This time, when Officer Bell-Osinkosky arrived to retrieve the fawn, he found it was severely dehydrated and did not run away after being pulled from the canal,” the SBPD wrote on its Facebook page.

Arp, the Sunset Beach Police Department’s animal control officer, was called and believed the fawn had not been in the care of its mother due to dehydration.

The Sea Biscuit Wildlife Shelter took in the fawn to provide him with the care he needed to treat his dehydration and rehabilitate him.

“This little fawn has been lovingly named Marlin. All the best, Marlin, and we hope you get well soon,” the SBPD wrote.
