The accident left one dead and two injured, the state civil defense reported

On Friday, the team of Mexican President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum suffered a car accident on the Sabinas-Monclova highway while on their way to an event hosted by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

The accident left one dead and two injured, the state civil defense reported. According to statements, the Jeep carrying Sheinbaum’s team crashed into a pickup truck, triggering a second collision with another vehicle.

The victim was an elderly lady who was in one of the affected vehicles.

The names of the deceased and the two other injured people, who were taken to the nearest hospital, are still unknown.

“We deeply regret that a person in the other vehicle died. The occupants of the two vehicles involved are being cared for by the federal government, the states and Sheinbaum’s own team,” the president’s team said.

This Friday, Claudia Sheinbaum started a working trip through Durango, Coahuila and Tamaulipas, where she will be accompanied by López Obrador.
