Teenager suspected of incident in Omaha high school parking lot turns himself in

OMAHA, Nebraska (WOWT) – The 17-year-old authorities were looking for after shots were fired at a gathering in the parking lot of Elkhorn North High School earlier this month has turned himself in to the Douglas County Sheriff.

Aden Ashburn, who was considered “armed and dangerous,” turned himself in Friday morning, according to an update from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. He is charged with unlawful and intentional discharge of a firearm, use of a firearm to commit a crime and unlawful possession of a firearm as a juvenile offender.

DCSO announced earlier this week that they planned to charge him as an adult.

According to authorities, Aden was one of four people who caused a disturbance in the parking lot of Elkhorn North High School on Monday, June 3. Officers responding to a 911 call about “shots fired” said they found several handgun shell casings but no signs of physical injuries.

Before Aden was taken into custody, the DCSO stated that “the recent increase in crime is a cause for great concern to the community.”

Witnesses told DCSO that there were about 100 young adults loitering in the parking lot and that at least one fight broke out between two men. DCSO said at least four people were there armed with handguns and that one of them allegedly fired multiple shots into the air, causing the crowd to flee.

In the following days, three people were arrested.
