Hunter attacked by bear he shot near Summerland

A man hunting in an area near Summerland was attacked by a bear he had shot just yesterday morning.

The BC Conservation Officer Service (BC COS) said a man and another person were hunting near Agur Lake in the McNulty Forest Service Road area around 8 a.m. Thursday.

<p>The man shot and wounded a bear and approached it, thinking it was dead. </p>
<p>However, as he got closer, the bear suddenly jumped up, knocked him down and attacked him. He was able to fire another shot and the bear ran away. </p>
<p>According to BC COS, the man was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.</p>
<p>The attack was reported around 3:30 p.m. yesterday and officers immediately went to the scene of the attack to search for the bear. The area was thoroughly searched, but the bear was not found. </p>
<p>The search for the animal continues and people are warned to be cautious in the area. Be sure to travel in groups and carry bear spray. </p>
