National Trust bans parking on West Wycombe High Street

In a letter to residents seen by the Free Press, a spokesperson for the heritage conservation charity said there would be a complete parking ban between Chapel House and 38 High Street from Sunday 7 July to Monday 2 September.

They said traffic wardens would erect barriers along the route on July 7 to stop traffic before “extensive works” begin on seven properties on the High Street the following day.

West Wycombe Council has reportedly offered the cemetery car park behind St Paul’s Church as an alternative parking space for the eight weeks, although residents will have to re-park their vehicles while funeral bookings are being made.

The National Trust had previously described the work as an “essential decoration project”, with a spokesman telling locals that subcontractors would “endeavour to minimise disruption”.

Buckinghamshire Council has also given permission to install two-way traffic lights on High Street within the two-month period to “separate a barrier from car traffic and pedestrians”.
