Cause of death known for man who died 38 years ago after being attacked with a baseball bat

Craig Tschudy died on June 5 from diffuse traumatic brain injury sustained when he was attacked with a baseball bat in York City at the age of 26.

A Pennsylvania man who was attacked with a baseball bat 38 years ago has died from injuries he sustained in the incident.

According to a press release from the York County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday, June 12, Craig Tschudy died at the age of 64 on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Inners Creek Nursing Center from a brain injury sustained in the attack.

Tschudy was 26 years old at the time of the attack in York City. According to the coroner, the attack was the result of mistaken identity.

Tschudy’s cause of death was diffuse traumatic brain injury, the office said.

“Tschudy, who was 26 years old at the time of the injury, was reportedly attacked with a baseball bat by then-unknown assailants in a case of mistaken identity,” the statement said.

Tschudy’s cause of death was ruled a homicide because someone else caused the injuries that led to his death.

Although there is no statute of limitations in this case, the coroner’s office said no charges would be filed in the attack because it was “not possible to identify the attackers years ago.”
