Williamsburg woman fatally hit by car in Kill Devil Hills: police

WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia – A Williamsburg woman died early Friday morning when she was struck by a car in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, police said.

The accident occurred on U.S. Highway 158 near Ocean Acres Drive. Kill Devil Hills police said officers arrived at about 1:08 a.m.

Investigators believe a 2021 Jeep Wrangler was traveling south in the fast lane on Highway 158 when 20-year-old Ashley Williams drove directly into the roadway, causing the accident.

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

According to Kill Devil Hills police, neither speed nor alcohol were to blame for the accident.

“The Kill Devil Hills Police Department extends our condolences to the Williams family,” police wrote in a news release. “We thank the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department, Dare County EMS, Nags Head Police Department, and Dare County Sheriff’s Office officers and telecommunicators for their assistance.”

The crash remains under investigation.
