“We ask our MPs and also the 179 MPs in Kenya-Kwanza to understand that bad politics leads to bad lives. They should all reject the Finance Bill because it will hurt all people whether they are in Azimio or Kenya-Kwanza. We urge our MPs not to travel this week as they await the debate on the Finance Bill. They should also not fail to attend the sessions.

The former CS of the Ministry of Defence urged Kenyans to continue to put pressure on MPs and expose those who vote against them.

“Citizens continue to apply pressure. We used to say ‘unmask the thief’, today we say ‘unmask your MP completely’ so that we know those who will betray you. In 2027, their fate will be sealed,” he said.

What will happen to Azimio MPs who oppose the party?

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna echoed Wamalwa’s views and urged MPs to cancel any planned trips or activities that would take them outside Nairobi.

The MP complained that the courts were the only obstacle to taking action against MPs who opposed the party’s position.

“That means from the date of filing on Tuesday next week until the vote. You will recall that last year the coalition held a similar vote to this year. You will recall that we at the ODM have initiated disciplinary proceedings against members of the party who either went into hiding or voted against the coalition’s position.

But one of the problems we hope to solve is that once parties initiate disciplinary proceedings against their members, they go to court and obtain orders that then tie the hands of the political party,” Sifuna said.
