“Gone for nothing”: 2 people shot and killed at car meet in Accokeek – NBC4 Washington

Two people were killed and another injured in a shooting in Accokeek, Maryland, at a weekly car meet with hundreds of participants, police said.

Prince George’s County police responded to a parking lot near the Manokeek Village Center on Berry Road around 11:45 p.m. Thursday and found two men with gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

One of the men killed was paralyzed from the chest down, said Tammala Swan, who said one of the victims was her brother. She shared her grief with News4 early Friday.

“My brother, my little brother, was already disabled and probably tried to escape but couldn’t because he was paralyzed from the chest down,” Swan said. “They just shot him for no reason.”

She wants anyone with information to come forward. Police have asked anyone who has photos or videos of the shooting to contact her.

“If you saw something, please say something. Innocent lives have been lost for nothing. The crimes and the killing and the shooting and everything else has to stop,” Swan said.

A third victim with a gunshot wound drove himself to the hospital and is stable, police said.

On Friday morning, cups, papers, coolers and camping chairs as well as an electric vehicle were seen abandoned in the parking lot.

Some of the car meet attendees stayed for hours. They told News4 that the car meet happens every week. People come for the camaraderie, the conversation and even to clean their cars.

Further information on the identity of the victims was not immediately released.

The police will review surveillance camera footage from nearby stores.
