Man dies in accident at Montgomery Co. printing plant

The incident occurred Wednesday in the plant’s parking lot in the 1000 block of Sloan Street.

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Indiana – Police in Crawfordsville are investigating after a truck driver was killed in a crash outside a printing plant on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on June 12 in the parking lot of the Lakeside Book Company, North Plant, in the 1000 block of Sloan Street, not far west of Wabash College.

Emergency responders found a 42-year-old man named Adam Raad of Alsip, Illinois, in the back of a tractor-trailer. Raad, a driver for a Chicago-based trucking company, was taken to Franciscan Health Crawfordsville Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Another truck driver for the company told police that he and Raad arrived in separate trucks for an agreed pickup.

“(The driver) reported to investigators that while Mr. Raad was maneuvering a large container backwards using his tandem trailer axles, he climbed into the back of the trailer without his knowledge to open the container,” the city of Crawfordsville said in a statement. “The moving container collided with Mr. Raad, resulting in serious injuries.”

Crawfordsville Police are investigating the incident and an autopsy has been scheduled for Raad.

According to officials, no Lakeside Book Company employees were involved in the incident.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Det. Bob Rivers of the Crawfordsville Police Department at (765) 362-3762, extension 233.
