Maria Guallpa-Bonilla of Bellport was arrested after a hit-and-run that killed Christopher Hlavaty

A Bellport woman was arrested and charged Thursday in a hit-and-run crash that killed an East Patchogue motorcyclist, Suffolk police said.

Police charged Maria Guallpa-Bonilla, 36, with fleeing the scene of an accident in Patchogue Monday night that killed 22-year-old Christopher Hlavaty, a volunteer firefighter from Hagerman.

A Bellport woman was arrested and charged Thursday in a hit-and-run crash that killed an East Patchogue motorcyclist, Suffolk police said.

Police charged Maria Guallpa-Bonilla, 36, with fleeing the scene of an accident in Patchogue Monday night that killed 22-year-old Christopher Hlavaty, a volunteer firefighter from Hagerman.

Guallpa-Bonilla is accused of driving a 2001 Mercury Cougar westbound on Main Street at 10:45 p.m. Monday when she struck Hlavaty, who was turning left from Rider Avenue in his Suzuki, according to police.

Hlavaty was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Guallpa-Bonilla was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. She was held overnight in the Fourth District and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in First District Court in Central Islip.
