Events of Juneteenth in Atlanta; list | 2024

ATLANTA — Juneteenth is approaching its fourth year of recognition as an official holiday, but it was a celebration in Georgia long before it gained national attention.

The federal holiday is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. This holiday, also nicknamed “Freedom Day”, celebrates liberation and a step towards equality. It is also used to reflect on history and navigate progress in order to create an equitable society.

Many often celebrate this day with prayer, religious services, speeches, educational events, family gatherings and picnics, as well as festivals with food, music and dancing.

Here are some places you can celebrate Juneteenth in metro Atlanta. For more events this weekend, head here.
