Work accident resulting in death

Magazine review

An industrial accident in the parking lot of Lakeside Book Co.’s north plant resulted in the death of an Illinois man on Wednesday.

Crawfordsville Fire and Police EMS personnel were dispatched to 1009 Sloan St. at 8:03 a.m. on a report of traumatic injuries.

Paramedics found Adam Raad, 42, of Alsip, Illinois, in the bed of a tractor-trailer. Raad, a truck driver for Fast Line Trucking based in Chicago, Illinois, was treated at the scene and taken to Franciscan Health Crawfordsville. He was pronounced dead at the hospital and the Montgomery County Coroner was contacted.

The tractor-trailer involved in this incident was driven by Mahmoud Mousa, 34, of Burbank, Illinois. Mousa is also a truck driver for Fast Line Trucking.

Mousa told investigators that he and Raad arrived at Lakeside Book Co. in separate trucks for an agreed-upon pickup.

Mousa said while he was maneuvering a large container to the rear of the trailer using his tandem trailer axles, Raad climbed onto the rear of the trailer without his knowledge to open the container. The moving container collided with Raad, causing serious injuries.

An autopsy has been scheduled.

No Lakeside Book Company employees were involved in the incident.

CPD is currently conducting an investigation into this incident. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective Bob Rivers at 765-362-3762, extension 233.
