Buffalo’s connection to “The Rainbow Connection”

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The Buffalo Music Hall of Fame receives a gift from the family of one of its inductees. A platinum disc of “The Rainbow Connection,” a song from “The Muppet Movie,” will be presented Friday at BMHOF.

Friends and family members of BMHOF inductee Ernie Corallo, who was inducted into BMHOF in the class of 1989, will present at BMHOF his platinum album, which will remain in his archives at the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame Museum. “It’s an honor,” says BMHOF’s Tom Lorentz. “It’s like comparing an Olympic athlete and saying: I won the gold medal.” Lorentz notes that most musicians don’t make a lot of money, so earning a platinum record by selling a million copies is an accomplishment.

But if you’re looking to see this or other musical artifacts, you’ll have a hard time finding it. “We would have a lot of things to show, but we don’t have the room to present them,” explains Lorentz. He says the headquarters is in a store on Amherst Street in Buffalo, next to Sportsmen’s Tavern. He said he worked with the Broadcasting and Sports Hall of Fame to create a Buffalo Experience museum. “Our goal is to have workshops, to have a theater there so that if someone comes to town we can present things. So whether it’s sports, whether it’s broadcasting, you would have a place where you could do these things,” says Lorentz. . He says it’s been difficult to get support from the city.

Corrallo died in 2021 at the age of 76.
