9-year-old boy killed by gunfire fired at his home, police and family say

MILWAUKEE (WISN) – A 9-year-old boy is the tenth child killed by gunfire in Milwaukee this year.

According to Milwaukee police, officers responded to shots fired shortly after midnight Thursday at an apartment complex on North Swan Road.

The boy, identified as Jonael Zambrano, was in his room with his sister and cousin when shots rang out in the house.

According to his family, his head was pierced by a bullet.

Milwaukee police said the child was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The sister and cousin were not injured.

Jonael’s mother said she couldn’t believe it. She thinks the shooter confused her house with someone else’s.

The police have not yet made any arrests, but investigations are ongoing.
