MARTA could add 4 new stations in Atlanta: where are they?

Murphy Crossing is by far one of the largest projects currently underway along the Beltline. The project is expected to include approximately 1,100 housing units and up to 180,000 square feet of commercial space, both with significant affordability components. The surrounding area, near West End, Oakland City and Adair Park, is being rapidly redeveloped into a community center with new residential and commercial space. This station will provide a link for commuters, providing easy access to Beltline trails and surrounding neighborhoods.

The Beltline is planning major redevelopment over the next six years, including the addition of an additional 16.3 miles of trails and groundwork for future transit installation.

Krog Street/Hulsey Court

Another station will be built on Krog Street, next to Hulsey Yard. This neighborhood’s mix of historic charm and modern buzz will benefit from the MARTA stop given that it includes local landmarks such as the Krog Street Market and the Krog Street Tunnel, which both attract residents and tourists.

This area has seen a boom in recent years, which has been positive for development and foot traffic, but a headache in terms of congestion.

Armored construction sites

Conveniently located between Buckhead and Midtown, Armor Yards is a bustling office and retail district expected to connect to the northeast Atlanta Beltline. Unlike Krog Street Market, the area has limited foot traffic. There are currently no MARTA bus or train lines that provide easy commuter access to the area. This proposed new infill station will help close a 4-mile gap between the two closest MARTA stations, the Arts Center and Lindberg Center stations.

Joseph E. Boone

Joseph E. Boone will be MARTA’s new transit station in northwest Atlanta, between Ashby and Bankhead stations. The neighborhood has become a hot spot for redevelopment and will likely be the most impactful addition to the subway line for low-income commuters in this historically neglected part of the city. Just south of the recently transformed West Midtown and not far from Atlanta’s Westside Reservoir Park, this area near Bankhead and Grove Park is a key part of the city’s redevelopment plans. Atlanta Beltline Inc. is already developing 425 Chappell Road, which abuts 30 acres of city-owned property near Boone, including Maddox Park. The city owns about 60 acres of public land in the area that, once the Beltline is completed, will be directly connected to the trail system.
