A father’s brave act after a dingo attacked his son

A two-year-old boy was bitten by a dingo on K’gari. His family was getting into the car when they saw his father chase the dog away.

The family was leaving Lake McKenzie on the island formerly known as Fraser Island and was in the parking lot when the father saw the dingo near the right side of the car on Thursday afternoon.

He told his family to get in on the left side of the car, but the dingo ran to the other side of the road before approaching the front of the vehicle.

Rangers on K’gari are currently attempting to identify the unmarked female dingo (wongari) that bit the child and are patrolling the area around Lake McKenzie.

Park and game rangers continue to patrol the area trying to identify the dingo, which is unmarked and is believed to be female.

Visitors and residents are urged to remain vigilant and keep children at a distance from the animal.

You are warned not to let children wander around the island alone or let them run around with sticks.
