One man dead, at least one other injured in head-on collision in Stevens County

A man died and at least one other person was hospitalized Thursday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash 4 miles south of Springdale in Stevens County, according to the Washington State Patrol.

WSP Trooper Cole Jackson said the deceased driver crossed into the oncoming lane on State Route 231 at Reservation Road around 3:30 p.m., causing a head-on collision.

The man died at the scene. Jackson said at least one person from the other vehicle was taken to hospital with injuries.

He said it was not known whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.

The highway is closed in both directions, WSP said. The Washington State Department of Transportation has set up detours in the area.

Jackson said the highway is expected to reopen around 7:45 p.m.
