Mother says her autistic daughter was attacked on a Pittsburgh school bus – WPXI

PITTSBURGH – A local mother wants answers after she says her daughter was attacked by another student on a school bus.

Her 10-year-old daughter, who is autistic and cannot speak, is covered in scratches and bite marks. She says the driver did nothing to help her.

Shareena Johnson said her daughter Zimeera was on her way to school at the Conroy Education Center this week when she was attacked by another student on the school bus rented by Pittsburgh Public Schools.

“She was scared and shaking,” Shareena explained. “I couldn’t express my feelings in words because I was so shocked when I saw the injuries on her body.”

Zimeera’s arm is severely swollen and has large red welts on her arm, shoulder and neck, scratch marks on her scalp and deep bite marks.

Shareena says it was the school nurse who called her and said she had to take her to the hospital.

She says the school bus driver, who was acting as a substitute, did not help in any way.

“They told me that protocol would determine whether to stop based on the severity of the incident,” Shareena explained. “Her driver did not stop or call emergency services. He did not call 911. He continued to drive to school while she was being attacked in the back seat.”

Since there are no cameras on the bus and Zimeera and the other students cannot speak, Shareena does not know what happened.

She wants the bus company, Krise Transportation Services, to take responsibility and have a plan to ensure student safety:

Channel 11 spoke to Crisis Transportation on Thursday afternoon and said:

“We are aware of the incident and are working internally with our staff and the school district to fully investigate to understand all the details of the incident.”

As a mother, Shareena says the most painful thing is that her daughter is now afraid and cowering.

“It’s heartbreaking. I don’t know how she feels, she can’t tell me what’s happening,” she added.

Shareena told us that she is not letting her daughter board the bus again for now. She also said that she has not received any apology from the bus company.

Crisis Transportation has since been removed from the route that brings special needs students to Conroy.
