Rape: Man gets 20 years in prison for raping 6-year-old, testimony of two drivers is important evidence | News from Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Kampati Karthik, 21, an auto driver, was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment by the I Additional & District Sessions Court in Khammam for raping a six-year-old girl in Chinnapudi village in March 2023. He was fined ₹55,000. On a Sunday in March 2023, when the girl was playing outside her house, she went missing. While her parents were searching for her, neighbours reported to them that they saw her travelling in an autorickshaw. Later, another auto driver dropped her home. On questioning by her parents, the auto driver told them that he saw the girl with Karthik on the outskirts of the village and that Karthik asked him to drop the girl home. Subsequently, Karthik was arrested and remanded in custody. Incidentally, when Karthik picked up the girl in his vehicle, they were seen by another auto driver from the same village. During the trial, the girl narrated to the court how Karthik took her in his autorickshaw to a remote place outside the village and raped her there. Both the auto drivers who saw the girl in Karthik’s company gave statements corroborating their testimony and forming important evidence for the conviction of the accused. Her parents’ statements were also recorded and the court also examined other evidence and found Karthik guilty of kidnapping and raping the girl. The court concluded the case within 11 months of the commencement of the trial. Khammam CP Sunil Dutt congratulated the investigation team and court staff for securing a conviction in the case in record time.
