Video shows the moment rapist and police officer David Carrick was arrested

Newly released footage shows disgraced police officer David Carrick attempted to exploit his status as a police officer when he was first arrested on suspicion of rape.

The 48-year-old former Metropolitan Police firearms officer was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 32 years at Southwark Crown Court on Tuesday after admitting a series of cruel sex offences against 12 women.

Following the verdict, Hertfordshire Police released footage of Carrick’s arrest in October 2021, when he was suspected of raping a woman he met on an online date.

“That’s not necessary,” the shirtless Carrick told arresting officers when they asked for permission to search his home.

“Damn it, I’ve only been a cop for 20 years,” he said.

The footage shows a visibly angry Carrick shaking his head, shouting “f***ing hell” and belligerently asking if the police were going to take him away half-naked.

“What are you looking for?” he asks, pointing out that the incident happened a year ago and allegedly took place in St. Albans.

It was previously revealed that Carrick said “not again” when he was arrested on suspicion of rape, apparently in reference to a rape charge filed against him in July 2021.

When it was announced in October 2021 that Carrick had been charged with rape, twelve women came forward and revealed attacks by the police officer between 2003 and 2020.

Carrick, who was part of the British police’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, has now admitted 49 crimes, including 24 counts of rape, making him once again one of Britain’s worst sex offenders.

Victims reported that he controlled them, subjected them to horrific violence and repeatedly forced them to have sex – sometimes over several years.

Many were too afraid to go to the police for fear they would never be believed. Moreover, Carrick’s status as a police officer made him “untouchable.”

The first woman proven to have raped Carrick wanted to report him in 2003, but was dissuaded from doing so by a nurse.

One victim was sent a picture of Carrick posing with his police weapon along with the message “Remember, I’m the boss.”

Another said she went home with Carrick as he promised her, “I am the safest person you can be with,” and of her ordeal, she said, “That night I felt like I had encountered evil.”

Judge Cheema-Grubb said in her verdict: “The malign influence of men like you in positions of power stands in the way of a revolution in women’s dignity.

“It is remarkable that, despite your position and power, other women felt able to act while one woman felt compelled to report an allegation against you.

“Even today, courage everywhere calls for courage and its voice cannot be denied.”

The judge sentenced Carrick, from Stevenage, to 36 life terms and ordered that he must serve at least 32 years in prison before being considered for release.
