SCHP investigates fatal accident involving pedestrian

Horry Co., SC (WOLO) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal car crash involving the driver of a pickup truck that authorities say struck and killed a pedestrian.

According to SCHP Lance Corporal Lina Butler, the accident occurred Thursday evening around 1:07 p.m. when the driver of a 2020 Ford Ranger pickup truck was traveling north on Nash Street and attempted to turn onto private property, which authorities say is located just outside of Myrtle Beach.

According to troopers, a person standing outside facing east was struck by the pickup truck as they stopped next to the oncoming car. According to SCHP, the pedestrian was taken to Grand Strand Regional Hospital, where the victim succumbed to his injuries, according to authorities.

The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
