Driver hits other driver in driving aggression incident in Berea

BEREA, Ohio – A 49-year-old Olmsted Falls man was arrested June 9 after striking a 20-year-old Olmsted Township man during a DUI incident in West Bagley.

The younger man called police around 8:15 a.m. and said he was driving east on West Bagley when the older man in front of him turned north from Lindbergh Boulevard without coming to a complete stop at a red light.

Then the older man abruptly stopped his car next to the younger man’s vehicle, looked at the younger man, and formed something with his lips.

The younger man pulled into the parking lot of the West Valley Plaza in West Bagley and the older man followed. The older man yelled at the younger man to slow down.

The younger man parked and walked to an ATM. The older man did the same. The younger man told the older man he didn’t want to fight him. The older man said, “I should knock you out.”

The older man punched the younger man in the face. The younger man tried to run away, but the older man grabbed him by the body. The younger man was able to free himself.

The older man ran back to his car. As he drove away, the younger man took a photo of his car and its license plate with his cell phone.

Police identified the elderly man by his license plate number. They called him and asked him to report to the police station. He arrived there at around 10:45 p.m.

The older man said the younger man was the attacker and that he hit the younger man in self-defense. However, two independent witnesses corroborated the younger man’s account.
